A former high school baseball star, Wilson continued his sparkling diamond play at FAMU during a four-year stint from 1967 to 1970. The Albany, Georgia native led the Rattlers in hitting and stolen bases during his junior and senior seasons (1969, 1970), capturing All-SIAC honors in 1970, as well as second team All-America.

Signed by the San Diego Padres in 1970, Wilson ascended through the Padres’ farm system to the Triple A level, playing three seasons in the Pacific Coast League before retiring from baseball.
