Mary Hill was a talented Gadsden County native, who became a star member of the Florida A&M Women's Volleyball team from 1987 to 1989. With her singular performance on the court, Hill would help lead the Rattlerettes (now Lady Rattlers) to their first-ever Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference title in 1988. The Havana High School graduate, starred in basketball, volleyball and track. In track, she proved to be an extremely valuable performer, excelling in both running and field events, developing into one of the state's best in the sprints and shot put.
Not only was Hill gifted athletically, but she also bad strong leadership abilities as evidenced by her being voted team captain in 1988 and 1989. Her performances on the volleyball court earned her
recognition from the New South Women's Athletic Conference as an all-league selection in 1988 and twice from the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference in 1988 and 1989.
A 1989 graduate of FAMU, Hill still ranks among the all-time great performers in volleyball. She ranks number one all-time in attack percentage; number two career wise in blocked shots and fifth overall in total blocks. In 1989, Hill was voted by the coaching staff as the club's top offensive player and its' most valuable player, just a year after being tabbed the team's most improved performer in 1988.
