Odoemene is the first to medal at SWAC Championships

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas | Karen Odoemene was the first Rattler to medal at the 2023 Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The junior highlighted day one with a bronze medal in the hammer throw (49.22 meters / 161' 5") – her second career SWAC medal after also finishing third at the 2022 meet.

Thursday action (May 4) also saw Florida A&M punch two tickets to the 200-meter dash final. 

Racing in at 24.54 and 24.55, respectively, Teleda Williams and Lauryn Hall received automatic qualifiers. The Rattlers went No. 3 and No. 4 in the preliminary race, while Jaydon Sanford narrowly missed a spot in the 400-meter hurdles final with a ninth-place time of 54.97. 

Florida A&M returns to the Prairie View A&M Track and Field Complex Friday at noon.
