BATON ROUGE, La. — The Florida A&M women's track and field team defended its throne, capturing the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship for the second consecutive year behind a dominant performance at Southern University's campus, May 10-12.

The Rattlers amassed 145.5 points to hold off Alabama State (132) and Southern (95.5) in a wire-to-wire effort that featured five individual event titles, two relay crowns and a host of personal bests and nationally ranked marks.

Gaines Headlines Championship Weekend

Senior sprinter Diandrenique Gaines was the star of the meet, sweeping the 100- and 200-meter dashes in championship-record fashion. Gaines clocked 11.15 seconds in the 100 meters — a new SWAC Championship meet record that ranks No. 1 among all HBCU performers and No. 20 in NCAA Division I this season. She followed that with a 22.72-second effort in the 200 meters, another HBCU-best mark that sits No. 15 nationally.

Gaines also anchored the Rattlers' 4x400-meter relay team alongside Kirah Copeland, Katelynn Smith and Kiersten Clark that won in 3:36.72 — a season-best time ranking No. 1 among HBCUs and No. 53 in Division I.
