Hattiesburg, Miss. | Florida A&M track & field traveled to the University of Southern Mississippi to compete in the Southern Miss Invitational Easter weekend. As the Rattlers have done throughout the first couple of meets this year, FAMU put on another strong performance.
On the women's side, FAMU raced to victories in the 400 meter dash and 400 meter hurdles.
Ajani Williams won the 400 meter dash (56.32) with teammate Lonzetta Simpkins coming in third place (57.03). Jada Harrison (1:03.65) edged out Alcorn State's Akili Pleas-Carnie(1:03.83) to win the 400 meter hurdles.
Ilyria Johns sprinted her way to a second place finish in the women's 200 meter dash.
Rachel Robertson once again showed why she's one of the top jumpers earning second place in the women's triple jump (12.05m) and third place in the women's high jump (1.68m).
Karen Odoemene placed second in the women's hammer throw (46.50).
In men's action, Mario Ospina dominated the men's 3000 meter steeple chase, winning with a time of 9:55.49. The next closest competitor was Chris Webber of Mississippi College who clocked in at 10:18.01
In the men's long jump, Pache' Caldwell and Dajon Clark placed first and second. Caldwell jumped 7.06 meters while Clark landed at 6.88 meters.
Yirmyah Yirmyah earned a podium position in the men's 400 meter hurdles, placing third. Jaydon Sanford finished just behind Yirmyah in fourth.
The 4x400 meter relay team of Jaylyn Scott, Jordan Nance, Ralph Goodman and Brandon Love raced their way to a third place finish with a time of 3:13.08, just behind Southern Miss (3:11.84) and Jackson State (3:12.21).
