BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (Jan.13) - The Florida A&M women's track team competed this week at the UAB Blazer Invite in Birmingham. Distance runner Chandelic Jackson continued her meet streak with a win in the 5000m run. The current MEAC women's track athlete of the week, Jackson came in at 18:17.77 to take the collegiate division top honor. She finished ahead of Georgia State star Jennifer Rubel, who came in second at 18:37.69.
The meet was comprised of several top college track programs from the south. Included in the meet was UAB, University of Mississippi, Louisiana Tech, University of Memphis, Bethune-Cookman University, Kennesaw State, Georgia State, Samford, Mississippi State and a host of other schools.
Ariel Allen just missed the mark, placing second in the 800m run. She was edged by Austin Peay's Chantelle Grey, finishing less than a second behind Grey. Allen posted a time of 2:14.62. Jackson finished fifth in the 800m run with a 2:18.72 time. Allen would also get a Top 10 finish in the 400m dash, finishing the race in 57.60.
Jackson would also make a solid showing in the mile run. She placed third in a time of 5:13.55. Allen would also get a Top 10 finish, scoring ninth place in a time of 5:22.75.
Clarricia Golden finished solid in the 5000m run with a 10th place finish. Her time of 19:43.25 edged out Sarai Waters of South Carolina.
Sprinter Jasmine Smith took fourth in the 200m dash in a time of 24.75. She would also sprint her way to a ninth-place finish in the 60m dash in a 7.730 time.
The 4x400m relay team carded a third place finish in the 4x400m relay. The Lady Rattlers ran 3:48.36, finishing right behind Jacksonville St. In the race, they bested South Carolina State and Bethune-Cookman, both MEAC teams.
Kinnesha Jones took fifth place in the triple jump, with a leap of 38-06.75 and eighth in the long jump at a distance of 18-00.25.
Rounding out the Lady Rattlers with Top 10 finishes, Sasha-Ann Lebert's toss of 41-06.50 was good for ninth place in the shot put.
