DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.
- The FAMU Lady Rattlers turned in a virtuoso performance at the B-CU Inaugural Beach Invitational track meet, earning first place in the scored meet. The Rattlers fought to a fourth place finish in the meet where they had thrilling performances.
The Lady Rattlers won half of the events at the meet. Coach Darlene Moore's ladies won eight of the 16 events in Daytona. They finished with 194 points, more than double the scores of Albany State and S.C State, who finished second and third respectively.
Jasmine Pleasant started the run, winning the collegiate division in the 200m dash in a time of 24.56. Rateema Stanley, followed that with a 55.97 first place time in the 400m dash. Ariel Allen ran a time of 2:13.78 to win the 800m run.
Latoya Wright, had a solid day individually at the Beach Invitational meet, winning the 100m hurdles (14.91) and 400m hurdles (1:02.37).
The Lady Rattlers won the 4x100m relay in 46.10 with the team of
Nakia Linson,
Richena Louis, Pleasant and Wright. The streaking 4x400m relay team of Allen, Linson, Stanley and Wright carded a time of 3:47.49 en route to a first place finish.
The Rattlers blazed to a first place finish in the men's 4x100m dash. The team of
Alexander Atkinson, Demarius Carroll,
Leon Hunt and
Willie Johnson sprinted to a time of 41.47 to best S.C State.
Degion Craddock pulled a second place finish, with a 1:54.34 performance in the 800m run. Carroll blazed to a 14.61 time to finish in the 100m high hurdles. Johnson leaped 2.03m (6'6") to finish second in the high ump. Johnson also took home second place in the long jump at 6.87m (22.54ft).
Leon Hunt ran a 22.11 to finish seventh in the 200m dash.
Shelton Tarver finished in 50.02, which was good for 10th place in the 400m dash.
Jakeem Welch finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 12.88m (42.26ft).
Justin Broiles finished sixth in the shot put (12.61m/ 41.34 ft) and 10th in the discus throw at 26.74m (87.73ft).
