TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Nov. 27) - In their final
contest of the 2010 season, the Florida A&M University Volleyball
team dropped a match, 3-0 (17-25, 16-25, 14-25) to cross town rival
Florida State, here Saturday afternoon at the Alfred Lawson Multipurpose
Center and Teaching Gymnasium.
The pre-game belonged to FAMU's
Susan Egoavil, who was one of only two seniors on Tony Trifonov's young
team. Egoavil set the FAMU all-time record for digs durig the MEAC
tournament this year. She was presented a commemorative photo plaque
before the game, with another token to be presented after her total
tally has been established. She eclipsed the old mark by finishing her
career wih 1,464 digs.
FAMU (12-15) finished the match with 30 kills, while FSU (21-10) finished with 44.
The Lady Rattlers were led by Katherine Huanec with nine kills, followed by Pamela Barrera with eight.
Diana Gonzalez led the team in assists with a game high 29, while Susan Egoavil led the team in digs with seven.
Visnja Djurdjevic was the only Lady Seminole to finish in double-digit kills for Florida State with 14.
Duygu Duzceler led the team in assists with 19, while Jenna Romanelli led the team in digs with nine.
In
the first set, FAMU rallied back to cut FSU's lead to 14-11 on an FSU
service error, capping a 4-1 run by the Lady Rattlers. The Lady
Seminoles would go on to win the first set 25-17, by outscoring the Lady
Rattlers 11-6.
FSU opened the second set with an 8-1 lead, capped off by an Ashley Neff kill.
The Lady Seminoles would win that set 25-16.
FAMU dropped the final set to FSU 25-14.
