High expectations are in place for the returning Lady Rattlers’ Basketball team captain, Jasmine ‘Jazz’ Grice. The highly-touted recruit from East Gadsden High School definitely had an impressive season last year. It was said by her coach that her athleticism on both ends of the court would have been critical for the success of her team and it was.
Despite her height at only 5’7”, Grice is a very aggressive player. “I have no fear on the court, whenever I play, I play to win,” said Grice. Grice had a total of 111 rebounds, 182 points in 28 games, 22 three-point shots, and 649 total shots. Grice also had 53 assists, 4 blocks, and 30 steals. She started in 16 games last season, but has started virtually every game since her freshman season.
During Grice’s junior high school season, she was given the honor of Most Valuable Player, while earning first team All-Big Bend honors. Once again in her senior year, she was honored as Most Valuable Player. In addition, Grice graduated Magna Cum Laude from East Gadsden High School.
Although basketball is a major part of this young player’s life, Grice is also very family oriented. She is the daughter of Cassandra and Vincent Grice and she has three siblings. Vincent Grice Jr., Davinte Grice and Nakaiya Benjamin. Although she says her family supports her greatly with her successful basketball career, she attributes most of her success to her grandmother Shirley Baker. “She motivates me in every way, I know it is only because of her, I am where I am today,” said Grice.
