Monesia Tiera Prothro of the Lady Rattler Women’s basketball team returns this season and is expected to be a contributor to the success of the team.
The 5’8” small guard was born in Carrollton, Ga., Sept. 29, 1991 to Antoinette Taylor and has two younger sisters, Megan Parker, 19, and Aaliyah Minnefield, 16.
Prothro was introduced to basketball over 15 years ago and to this day is still in love with the game. “I’ve always enjoyed playing basketball, for as long as I can remember playing was something I loved doing,” Prothro said.
She attended Carrollton High School where she played for her high school team. During her high school career she received the freshman of the year award, The Linda Bell Honorary Award, all-state freshman, all-state sophomore and all-district. Prothro said her best high school performance had to be when she scored 36 points and pulled down 22 rebounds.
Prothro was recruited to play for N.W. Florida State College in Niceville, Fla., in 2010 where she once again continued to be a key player on her team. Her accomplishments include first team all-conference team and All-American. She still remembers the best game she had at her Junior College. “I can still remember my best game. That night we played against Pensacola College and I scored 32 points, 15 rebounds and had five assists,” Prothro said.
After graduating from junior college in 2012, Prothro was recruited to play for FAMU’s women’s basketball team and is currently a criminal justice senior. She is also a mentor at FAMU Developmental Research School and is an active member of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
