BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Concluding its "regular season" in style, the Florida A&M track and field program put together remarkable performances at the Badger Windy City Invite on Feb. 10.
Nya Blocker,
Breanna Brown-Marshall, and
Joseph DeRosier's outstanding achievements caught the attention of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC), leading to their well-deserved recognition as athletes of the week, the league office announced Feb. 14.
Nya Blocker (Indoor Track Athlete of the Week)
Blocker won the 200-meter final (22.63) at the Badger City Windy City Invite (Feb. 10) … she also set a new personal record in the race … the time ranks 69th on the NCAA Division I Indoor Qualifying List and is the fastest in the SWAC this season
Breanna Brown-Marshall (Indoor Field Athlete of the Week)
Brown-Marshall defeated 18 others in the women's long jump … the 5.88-meter leap (19' 3.5") cemented Brown-Marshall's first LJ win of the season, and her second "Top 3" performance … with a mark of 1.74 meters (5' 8.5"), she also placed fifth-overall in a 20-person field in the high jump
Joseph DeRosier (Indoor Track Athlete of the Week)
DeRosier set a personal record in the 60-meter hurdle finals (7.79) … he finished third overall … the time ranks 41st on the NCAA Division I Indoor Qualifying List and is the fastest in the SWAC this season … DeRosier also set a PR in the 200-meter race (22.10)
