Two First Place Finishes & Six Medals

FAMU opened its 2024 indoor schedule with a pair of event wins and six medalist honors at the Clemson Opener.

CLEMSON, S.C. | The Florida A&M track and field program opened its 2024 indoor schedule with a pair of event wins at the Clemson Opener on Friday (Dec. 8), as Denae Hill and William Shelton respectively stood atop the winner's podium in the women's shot put (12.90 meters / 42' 4") and the men's 600-meter (1:19.92) to guide the Rattlers' six medalist performances.

FAMU's top finishes also saw Peter Sailsman place second in the long jump (7.32m / 24' .25") behind an unattached athlete, while Niya Coleman -- fresh off of helping the Rattlers' cross country team to its first Southwestern Athletic Conference title -- notched the second fastest mile (5:32.69).

Both Shelton and Hill wrapped the indoor opener with personal bests; the former in his 600-meter race and Hill with a third-place weight throw (15.28m / 50' 1.75"). Breanna Brown-Marshall also secured a PR with a third-place high jump (1.80m / 5' 10.75") in their FAMU debut.

Florida A&M will return to action in the HBCU Showcase presented by KPMG; the New York meet is scheduled for Jan. 13.
