Rattlers' Volleyball Dominates SWAC Honors - Four Player of the Year, and Five All-SWAC Earners

Dominique Washington and Irem Ucar repeat as Player and Setter of the Year

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. | Florida A&M volleyball has another successful team season, leading to five individuals earning All-SWAC honors and four earning Player of the Year awards.
 
This is the Rattlers' second consecutive season they had the Player of the Year, Setter of the Year, Libero of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year while leading the conference with five All-SWAC honorees.
 
Dominique Washington - Player of the Year, All-SWAC First Team (Outside Hitter)
 
Dominique Washington, the reigning SWAC Player of the Year, was one of the best hitters in the nation and the top hitter in the SWAC, finishing with 391 kills (49th in the nation, 1st in SWAC). During SWAC play, Washington finished first in kills per set (4.02). Washington was the only player in the SWAC to average 4+ kills per set during conference play and had the highest hitting percentage for any SWAC player with 200+ kills during conference play. Dominique Washington was also a top contributor on the defensive end, finishing second on the team with 272 digs (2.57 digs per set).
 
Irem Ucar - Setter of the Year, All-SWAC First Team (Setter)
 
Irem Ucar, the reigning SWAC Setter of the Year, had another stellar season setting her teammates up for kills, finishing with a league-leading 635 assists (10.76 assists per set) in SWAC play. Ucar had 200 more assists than the setter, with the second most, and was the only player to average 10+ assists per set. Ucar also ranked 55th in the nation in assists per set. 
 
Brooke Hudson - Libero of the Year, All-SWAC First Team (Libero)
 
Brooke Hudson was one of the best defensive players in the nation and the top defensive player in the SWAC, finishing with 487 digs (44th in nation, 1st in SWAC). During SWAC play, Hudson led the league in total digs (267) and digs per set (4.68). Hudson was consistent on the defensive end recording 10+ digs in 28 matches and 20+ in seven.
 
Hudson earned SWAC Defensive Player of the Week five times this season.
 
Brooke Lynn Watts - Newcomer of the Year, All-SWAC First Team (Outside Hitter)
 
Brooke Lynn Watts was a significant contributor for the Rattlers in her first season. During SWAC play, Watts finished in 7th, averaging three kills per set. Watts also finished eighth in points (194) and points per set (3.53) during SWAC play. Watts had 10+ kills in 12 matches and recorded a season-high 21 kills in the win at Alabama State. Watts also contributed defensively, finishing the season with 218 digs.
 
Watts earned newcomer of the week four times and offensive player of the week once.
 
Aja Jones - All-SWAC Second Team (Middle Hitter)
 
Aja Jones was a force in the middle, finishing the season with 218 kills (2.06 K/S) and led the SWAC with a .342 hitting percentage. During SWAC play, Jones recorded 119 kills (2.25 K/S). Jones had 10+ kills in nine matches and recorded a season-high 16 kills versus Elon. Jones had a hitting percentage of .500 in 10 matches and a season-high .857 in the win versus Mississippi Valley. 
 
The Rattlers enter the tournament as a 2-seed and open up versus 7-seed Arkansas-Pine Bluff Friday, November 18, at 5 p.m. Eastern on the SWAC Digital Network.
