ATLANTA, Ga. | The Florida A&M University bowling team achieved a rare feat at the 2020 TBNBA HBCU Invitational over the weekend as three bowlers tied for MVP honors as the Lady Rattlers claimed second at the event, which was hosted by Jackson State University.
Demetria Bethel,
Chelsie Cleaves and
Bethany Noel all finished at 999, good for a 199.80 average – tops among 97 competitors in the 16-team field and it marked the first time in NCAA history that a team had three top members lead the field and finish as MVPs.
All three Rattlers rolled at least three 200 games in their five-game sets, with Cleaves rolling a team-high 246 in Game 3 against Alabama A&M.
FAMU's
Monique Ragland finished sixth in the standings with a 977 total, good for a 195.41 game average, while
Keondra Eaton finished in the Top 15, with a 936 total, with a 187.00 average.
The Lady Rattlers posted a 11-2 mark overall, placing first through qualifying play, with a 9-1 mark, knocking down 4,910 total pins.
In the championship round, FAMU defeated Alabama State and Livingstone College to reach the final in a rematch with Alabama State, with the Hornets coming out on top.
Florida A&M returns to the lanes again March 20-22 in Chesapeake, Va. at the 2020 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championships.
