Rattlers Show Depth, Fight, and Front-End Potential at SWAC Round Up

2/9/2026 8:42:00 AM

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Florida A&M's bowling program left SWAC Roundup 2 with a .500 finish, important wins, and a clear blueprint for what could be a strong push as the conference season tightens.

The Rattlers went 7-7 over 14 traditional matches in Huntsville, including decisive wins over Prairie View A&M (864-815), Alabama A&M (900-881), and Grambling (918-548, 805-536), while posting a weekend-best team game of 918.

That .500 mark was more than just a split — it reflected a resilient response in a deep SWAC field. Florida A&M's lineup showed the ability to rebound quickly, stack quality games, and close matches with poise, all traits that travel well into postseason-style formats. In the final standings for Roundup 2, the Rattlers finished fifth and were one of only six programs in the eight-team field to reach at least seven wins.

Across both SWAC Roundups this season, Florida A&M is now 13-15 overall, placing sixth in the cumulative conference table and firmly in striking distance of the middle tier. The Rattlers' combined total of 23,181 pins over 28 games underscores consistent production against one of the nation's most competitive HBCU bowling leagues.

Individually, Florida A&M's youth movement continues to be a bright spot. Briana Buezon (first year) led the Rattlers' eligible bowlers with a 172.87 combined average, while Mary Terebesi (168.81), Nakeelah Townsend (166.08), Alieenah Rodriguez (164.70), and Layla Holtapple (164.00) all contributed meaningful scoring volume over the two-roundup sample.

In Roundup 2 specifically, Florida A&M also got impactful performances from multiple contributors: Townsend averaged 170.67 in limited action, Terebesi averaged 167.88, Holtapple averaged 165.83, and Buezon averaged 164.36 — a sign of lineup balance and roster flexibility as the staff manages matchups and momentum.

The bigger takeaway for FAMU is trajectory. The Rattlers have shown they can generate high-end team games, handle pressure in swing matches, and develop first-year talent at a pace that should raise their ceiling in the weeks ahead. If they continue to tighten spare conversion and sustain their best scoring stretches, Florida A&M has the profile of a team capable of outperforming its seed when championship play begins.
