WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (Nov. 14) - The Florida A&M Women's Basketball team held off a second half charge from Florida Memorial for a 66-62 non-conference victory here at the Greene Complex Saturday afternoon.
FAMU (1-1) got 19 points from newcomer Cedricka Sweeting, who was four-of-seven from three-point range, adding three rebounds, three assista nd three steals. Senior Khaderja Young was the only other Rattler in double figures with 11 points.
The Rattler Women took a 25-13 lead after the first quarter, and that 12-point advantage served them well the rest of the way, as the Lady Lions of FMU (1-4) , won the second period, 21-12, to trail FAMU, 37-34 at halftime.
In the third period, FAMU edged Memorial, 14-11, before the Lady Lions made a 17-15 surge in the fourth quarter to get closer as time ran out.
Ashley Henry led Memorial with 22 points and a game hjigh 15 rebounds, with Abreona Cabell added 10 points and 10 rebounds for FMU.
WHAT'S NEXT: The Rattler Women travel north to Chapel Hill, N.C. for a Tuesday evening bout with the University of North Carolina Tar Heels at 7 p.m.
