TALLAHASSEE, Fla (Feb.1) – The Florida A&M Rattlers (7-14, 3-5 MEAC) fell 63-59 in overtime to the S.C. State Bulldogs (8-13, 4-4 MEAC) here today at the AL Lawson Center.
The Rattlers fell behind by double digits, before mounting a comeback to tie the game and send it into overtime. The back-and-forth game saw eight ties and eight lead changes, with the Bulldogs prevailing largely due to a towering three-pointer nailed by Jordan Smith in overtime.
The Rattlers were led by Reggie Lewis, who led all scorers with 20 points on 6-of-17 shooting from the field, including 4-of-10 from the three-point line. Jamari Bradshaw went 5-of-15 to score 12 points and was the only other Rattler in double-figures. FAMU's leading scorer, Jamie Adams, struggled from the field, as he mustered just one field goal in 12 attempts to finish with two points.
The Bulldogs were led by Smith, who scored 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the field, making 4-of-8 from the three-point arc. No other Bulldog scored in double figures. Jalen White added nine points, while Devin Joint pulled down 10 rebounds.
For the Rattlers, Bobby King led the way with eight rebounds, while Bradshaw pulled down five. The Rattlers shot a dismal 333.0-percent from the field as a team, struggling at the free throw line, shooting just 58.3-percent.
The Rattlers will return to action on Monday as they will face the Tigers of Savannah State in an 8 p.m. tipoff.
