BLOOMINGTON, IN (May 26) - FAMU senior long jumper Leon Hunt is closing out his career in style. Hunt, qualified for the NCAA National Championship meet at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa on June 8-11, by advancing in today's NCAA East Regional in Bloomington, Indiana.
Hunt, leaped 7.64m (25-00.75 ft.) to qualify for the nationals, placing sixth overall in the region. He is the reigning MEAC indoor and outdoor long jump champion.
Two Lady Rattlers, who qualified for the East Regional meet, failed to qualify today. Lady Rattler MVP Latoya Wright, bumped a hurdle in the 400m hurdle race and stumbled enough to put her time out of the needed range to make the finals. Nakia Linson, who qualified for the East Regional in the 100m dash, finished with a time of 12.09.
Rattlers Jasmine Pleasant and Demarius Carrol, will get their opportunity to compete on Friday.
