Four Rattlers Selected to 2011 HBCU All-Star Bowl

Four Rattlers have been selected to compete in the 3rd Annual HBCU All-Star Bowl. Kevin Elliott, Branden Curry, DJ Folsom and Jerry Willis have been invited to participate in the game on Sunday, Dec. 18 at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta.

The HBCU All-Star Bowl selects the top 100 draft-eligible players from all major HBCU Conferences. Represented in the game are the MEAC, SWAC, SIAC and CIAA conferences. While the game is the highlight for the fans, the players benefit from the HBCU Official Combine, which is administered by National Football Scouting of Indianapolis, In., which is the same group used for the NFL Combine. At both of the previous bowls, all teams from the NFL, some Canadian Football League teams and Arena Football League teams were present.

In addition to the combine, players will engage in development activities throughout the week, which includes player hospital visits, a life skills session, financial advisor seminar and weekend entertainment events.

FAMU head coach Joe Taylor has guided the East squad to victories in the first two HBCU All-Star Bowls. In 2009, the inaugural event was held in Montgomery, Al., at the Crampton Bowl. FAMU's Leroy Vann was the MVP of the game, as he ran back a punt for 81-yards and a score in the highly competitive game. The East squad prevailed 26-21.

In last year's second edition, the events were moved to Atlanta, to the friendly confines of the Georgia Dome. Taylor and his staff again took home the victory in a testy 24-16 win. FAMU's Kendrick Washington recovered a fumble late in the game, and rambled 20 yards for the score.
