TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida A&M's offense roared for 462 yards of total offense and the Rattlers knocked off Albany State 33-25 Saturday evening from Ken Riley Field at Bragg Memorial Stadium.
The win improved Florida A&M's record to 1-2 on the season while the Golden Rams fell to 2-1.
RJ Johnson III led Florida A&M's passing attack with 272 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns without throwing an interception.
Thad Franklin Jr. paced the Rattlers rushing attack by accumulating 76 yards and two touchdowns over the course of the game, averaging 5.1 yards per carry.
Jamal Hailey also added 13 yards on the ground, as well as 26 receiving yards and one touchdown.
The most prolific target for Florida A&M quarterbacks was
Kenari Wilcher, who caught five passes for 121 yards and one score.
Armand Burris got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in five balls for 78 yards. The Rattlers also got 58 yards receiving from
Miles Campbell in the contest.
Dion Villiers showed out for the Florida A&M defense, recording one recovered fumble.
Jameel Sanders added six tackles, 2.0 TFL, and one sack.
Both teams forced one turnover in Saturday's contest, with Florida A&M turning that takeaway into six points. The Florida A&M offense did a good job extending drives, converting on 64.3 percent of third-down attempts. The Rattlers also went 1-for-1 on fourth down.
Florida A&M's defense held up against Albany State's offense, allowing 321 total yards.
How It Happened
Florida A&M responded to an early 6-0 Albany State advantage with a first quarter field goal to narrow the deficit to 6-3.Albany State increased its lead to 14-3, but the Rattlers answered with a touchdown to narrow the advantage to 14-10.
The Rattlers followed with a 71-yard touchdown reception from to Wilcher at the 14:42 mark in the third quarter and took a 17-14 lead in the process. Florida A&M continued to build their lead, scoring again to go up 23-14.
Florida A&M continued to build its advantage after Albany State made it a 23-17 game, scoring again with 5:00 remaining in the third quarter make the score 26-17.The Rattlers kept scoring, tacking on a touchdown to extend their advantage to 33-17. Florida A&M didn't score again and Albany State added eight more points to finish off the scoring.
