TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Armond Parker threw three touchdown passes and Florida A&M rallied from a 14-point deficit to pull within two late in the third quarter, but Alabama A&M held on for a 40-21 win Saturday at Bragg Memorial Stadium.
Trailing 21-7, the Rattlers (1-4, 0-1 Southwestern Athletic Conference) answered with two touchdowns to make it 23-21 with 5:19 left in the third quarter. The Bulldogs (4-1, 1-0 SWAC) scored the game's final 17 points.
Parker finished with 168 passing yards and three touchdowns. Kieren Jackson was his top target, hauling in six catches for 89 yards and a score.
Chase Gillespie led the ground game with 21 yards, and Jamal Hailey added 17.
The FAMU defense forced two turnovers and turned them into six points. Justin Bostic had four tackles and an interception, Daylyn Diston recovered a fumble and Andre Powell Jr. led the team with eight tackles.
How It Happened
Florida A&M struck first, taking a 7-0 lead on the game's opening drive. Alabama A&M responded with three straight touchdowns to go up 21-7 before the Rattlers found the end zone to make it 21-13.
After the Bulldogs extended the lead to 23-13, FAMU answered again with a touchdown and a two-point conversion to cut the margin to 23-21 with 5:19 left in the third quarter. Alabama A&M added 17 unanswered points to close out the game.
