TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --The Florida A&M volleyball team recorded a .405 hitting percentage on the way to a four-set win (25-14, 22-25, 25-16, 25-22) against the Alabama State Lady Hornets Friday at home at Lawson Multipurpose Center and Teaching Gymnasium.
The conference victory improved Florida A&M's record to 6-8 overall and 1-0 in SWAC play.
The Rattlers were led by a double-double from Sydney Whitfield, who registered 25 kills and 10 digs on the day. Ladonna Trantham also added 13 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Kelly Kelsick chipped in for with nine digs to go with four blocks from Farah Farooq.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Rattlers grabbed control on the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to win the first set 25-14. Florida A&M opened its biggest lead, 11 points, to finish off the set. Florida A&M also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Alabama State attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Florida A&M then lost set two 25-22, tying the match at a set apiece. The Rattlers dropped the second set despite a solid showing on the attacking end. Florida A&M put together a .419 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set loss.
SET 3 | Florida A&M then got back on the winning track, emerging victorious in set three and taking two sets to one lead in the match. The Rattlers took the set 25-16 helped by a strong showing on the attacking end. Florida A&M put together a .394 attack percentage with 17 kills in the set win. The Rattlers opened a 21-11 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there.
SET 4 | Florida A&M kept the momentum going, earning the match win with a 25-22 fourth-set victory. The Rattlers took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure the victory. Florida A&M opened as much as a nine-point lead at 10-1 before finishing off the stanza, totaling 19 kills while only notching two attack errors in the process.
