BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Bobby Engstler and Denzel Johnson of Florida A&M Football each received Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) weekly accolades on Monday, as announced by the league office in Birmingham, Alabama.
 
Bobby Engtsler was named SWAC Special Teams Player of the Week, while Denzel Johnson was tabbed SWAC Defensive Player of the Wek.
 
Engstler, a 6-foot, 204-pound sophomore from Tallahassee – and a transfer from Arkansas State, registered six punts for the Rattlers over the weekend at home to Tennessee State. The punts totaled 257 yards, including three placed inside the 20 – with his longest being a 57-yarder. Engstler has punted 31 times throughout the course of the season for 1,254 yards, nine inside the 20 and four (4) kicks of 50 yards or better, respectfully. As the Chiles Academy graduate continues to be a contributing piece to FAMU and the special teams unit, his way of flipping the field to give the defense a chance to defend with breathing room earns him his first weekly honor of the season.
 
As for Denzel Johnson, this is also the first SWAC weekly award of the season for the 5-foot-11, 215-pound junior linebacker from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Over the weekend, Johnson led the Orange and Green with 12 tackles (seven solo) in a highly competitive game at home to Tennessee State. The former Alabama State defensive man has been an anchor for FAMU defensively thus far across the first four games of the season, leading the squad with 28 total tackles (14 solo), one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and a pass breakup. Following a season-high in tackles against the Tigers, Johnson will enter SWAC play versus Alabama A&M this coming weekend ranked in the Top 10 for tackles, respectively.
 
Other SWAC weekly honors included Southern's Trey Holly as Offensive Player of the Week, along with Christian Johnson of the Jaguars earning Newcomer of the Week.
