ATLANTA, Ga. -- The stage is set for the Florida A&M Rattlers men's basketball as they enter the 2026 Southwestern Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament with momentum, confidence and championship aspirations.
Florida A&M earned the tournament's No. 2 seed after a strong regular season and will open play Wednesday night at Gateway Center Arena in Atlanta in Game 6 of the bracket. Tipoff is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. EST.
The Rattlers will face the winner of a three-team path that begins with No. 12 seed Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils men's basketball taking on No. 9 seed Grambling State Tigers men's basketball in the opening round. The winner of that matchup advances to face No. 7 seed Jackson State Tigers men's basketball, with that winner moving on to meet Florida A&M in the quarterfinal round.
Regardless of which opponent emerges, Florida A&M enters the tournament believing it has the balance, toughness and leadership needed to make a deep run toward the SWAC championship.
Under first-year head coach Charlie Ward, the Rattlers' ability to create extra possessions on the offensive glass and defend the paint has made them one of the more difficult teams to prepare for in the SWAC. When Florida A&M is dictating tempo and limiting turnovers, the team becomes especially dangerous.
The bracket also provides a clear path toward the title game for a team that finished near the top of the conference standings. A victory in Game 6 would send Florida A&M to the semifinals and move the Rattlers two wins away from capturing the SWAC championship and earning the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
