BIRMINGHAM, Ala.  -- Florida A&M University softball's Keeleigh Spooner and Samantha Smith were named the Southwestern Athletic Conference Co-Hitter of the Week and Co-Pitcher of the Week, respectively, the league announced. The honors follow a dominant weekend at Wiggins Field in which the Rattlers swept Mississippi Valley State in three games, outscoring the Lady Devilettes 26-0 across the series.

Spooner, a catcher, put together one of the most complete offensive weekends of the season, going 6-for-10 at the plate with a home run, two doubles and nine RBI over the three contests. She recorded multi-hit performances in two of the three games and slugged a walk-off three-run home run in Game 1 to cap a five-run sixth inning. Spooner's on-base consistency and timely hitting were central to an offense that totaled 31 hits in the series.

Smith was equally dominant on the mound in her two starts. She tossed eight scoreless innings across Games 2 and 3, surrendering just two hits while striking out nine batters. Smith also earned the win in both outings, improving her record to 5-3 on the season. She did not allow a run in either start, holding MVSU hitless in seven of eight combined innings.

With the three wins, FAMU improved to 14-12 overall and 5-1 in SWAC play, positioning the Rattlers among the conference's top contenders heading into the heart of league play.

Spooner's breakout weekend was punctuated by a three-run home run in the sixth inning of Game 1 — her first of the season — that pushed the final score to 10-0. She also added a two-RBI performance in Game 3, driving in multiple runs in each contest of the series. Her .600 batting average for the week ranked among the best marks in the conference, and her nine RBI led all players in the sweep.

Smith's command was equally impressive. In Game 2, she worked four innings, allowing just one hit and walking one while punching out seven batters on 61 pitches. She returned in Game 3 to toss four more innings of no-run ball, giving up a single hit and striking out two more. The right-hander surrendered no earned runs on the weekend, earning back-to-back victories and her fifth win of the year.
