Florida A&M Falls Short in Season Opener

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Four Florida A&M pitchers combined for 12 strikeouts, but the Rattlers fell to the Eastern Illinois Panthers 13-4 Friday.

Garrett Workman (0-1) got the ball to start for Florida A&M (0-1) and took the loss. J. Garner was a bright spot for the Rattlers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, with no walks and three strikeouts.

Offensively, the Rattlers were led by Will Brown, who went 1-for-4 on the day with two RBIs. Justen Crews furnished a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with an RBI. Ethan Miller also contributed for Florida A&M, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 7-0, the Rattlers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Colton Ryals came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M and get them on the board.

The Panthers expanded their lead to 10-1 before the Rattlers offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the seventh. Florida A&M scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run single off the bat of Brown, which brought the score to 10-4 in favor of the Panthers. The Rattlers were unable to get any closer, as Eastern Illinois added three runs to their tally on the way to a 13-4 final.
