PINE BLUFF, Ark. --The Florida A&M men's basketball team out-rebounded the UAPB Golden Lions 33-24 on the way to a 71-67 win on the road Saturday.
The Rattlers (6-9, 3-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Jaquan Sanders, who had 18 points. Jordan Chatman tacked on 17 points and Miles Ndalama chipped in as well with 15 points.
Florida A&M utilized fantastic ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 16 assists on 24 made field goals. Micah Octave's seven assists were the most for the Rattlers and Tyler Shirley also contributed with five assists of his own.
The Florida A&M defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 13 UAPB turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 16 points on the offensive end of the floor. Octave's four steals led the way individually for the Rattlers.
How It Happened
After jumping out to an 18-17 advantage, Florida A&M went on a 5-0 run with 6:43 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Sanders, to increase its lead to 23-17. The Rattlers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 31-30.
After intermission, Florida A&M kept the Golden Lions from increasing their lead before going on a 6-0 run to seize a 67-62 lead with 58 seconds to go in the contest. The Golden Lions narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Rattlers still held on for the 71-67 win.
