TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida A&M fell 42-14 to Alabama State at home Saturday afternoon.
The Hornets improved to 3-1 on the year and 1-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Rattlers fell to 1-3 overall and 0-1 in conference matchups.
Thad Franklin Jr. paced the Rattlers rushing attack by accumulating 75 yards and one touchdown over the course of the game, averaging 5.8 yards per carry.
RJ Johnson III also added 56 yards on the ground, averaging 7 yards per carry.

Miles Campbell, who caught four passes for 28 yards and one score.
Corey Collier Jr. showed out for the Florida A&M defense, recording three tackles, one forced fumble, and one recovered fumble.
The Rattlers won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing one turnover while avoiding any giveaways. Florida A&M converted on 41.7 percent of third-down attempts on the day.
Defensively, Florida A&M held up well against the Alabama State passing attack, holding the Hornets to 106 yards through the air. In part because of that strong defense, Florida A&M receivers outgained their Alabama State counterparts 133-106.
How It Happened
Florida A&M responded to an early 14-0 Alabama State advantage with a second quarter touchdown to narrow the deficit to 14-6. The Rattlers responded with a touchdown after Alabama State extended its lead to 35-6 to make it a 35-14 game. Florida A&M didn't score again in the game and Alabama State tacked on seven more points to finish off the scoring.
