FAMU Battles Jacksonville State in 4 Sets

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.  --The Florida A&M volleyball team won the first set, but couldn't hold on and fell 3-1 (25-20, 19-25, 19-25, 23-25) to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks Friday at Swisher Gymnasium.

The non-conference loss moved Florida A&M to 2-8 on the season.

The Rattlers attack was paced by Ladonna Trantham, who finished with 14 kills on the day, and by Farah Farooq, who had 11 while hitting .304. got 19 digs from Ruxandra Flueras along with five blocks from Farooq to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Rattlerettes opened up an early one set to none lead, winning the first set 25-20. Florida A&M never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 16-15 in a set that featured nine ties and five lead changes.

SET 2 | Florida A&M then lost set two 25-19, evening the match at a set apiece. Florida A&M trailed by as many as seven points as Jacksonville State grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was tied up five times before the Gamecocks took over the lead.

SET 3 | Florida A&M lost again in set three to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Rattlers lost the first point and never clawed back into the lead before falling in the set 25-19.

SET 4 | Florida A&M lost set four and the match, falling 25-23. The Rattlers dropped the first point and never clawed back into the lead before falling in the set.
