FAMU drops 3-2 match to Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Florida A&M volleyball team lost to the Jacksonville Dolphins 3-2 (17-25, 25-27, 25-21, 25-16, 7-15) Saturday on the road at Swisher Gymnasium.

The non-conference loss dropped Florida A&M to 2-9 on the season.

The Rattlers offense was paced by Ladonna Trantham, who finished with 15 kills on the day, and by Iyonnie Sanford, who had 15. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Ruxandra Flueras had 18 and Victoria Santana had 10. From the front row, Yaricel Rodrigeuz contributed five blocks and Farah Farooq added five rejections.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Rattlerettes found themselves in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-17. Florida A&M trailed by as many as nine points as Jacksonville never gave up the lead in a set that was tied up just once before the Dolphins took control.

SET 2 | A 27-25 second-set loss put Florida A&M behind two sets to none in the match. The Rattlers fell in a close second set, losing in a stanza that was tied 11 times and had four lead changes.

SET 3 | After falling in the opening two sets, Florida A&M rallied to grab set three and make it a 2-1 match. The Rattlers led from the first point on in the set to secure a 25-21 victory. Florida A&M opened up as much as a five point lead at 16-11 before finishing off the set.

SET 4 | Florida A&M continued their comeback, winning the fourth set 25-16 to bring the match level at two sets apiece. The Rattlerettes took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure the victory. Florida A&M opened up as much as a 12 point lead at 19-7 before finishing off the stanza. Florida A&M also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.

SET 5 | Florida A&M dropped the first two sets, but rallied to even it at 2-2 before falling 15-7 in the final set. The Rattlers fell behind by as many as eight points before dropping the fifth set.
