TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida A&M defeated Bethune-Cookman 5-1 and 1-0 on Saturday.

The Florida A&M Rattlers took a 1-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 5-1 win against the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Saturday.
Sophomore Zoryana Hughes (9-6) started in the circle and picked up the win for Florida A&M (19-17, 15-4). The left-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on six hits, allowing three walks and striking out one.
In the batter's box, the Rattlers were led by senior Kiauna Watson, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double, a triple and an RBI. Junior Keeleigh Spooner compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Senior B. Duggins also chipped in for Florida A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Florida A&M scratched across a run off senior Alyssa Lopez when Watson tripled in freshman Ciara Maple.
The Wildcats failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers built on their lead in the fifth inning. The Florida A&M offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a one-run walk off the bat of Spooner, which brought the Rattlers lead to 5-0. Bethune-Cookman put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Florida A&M still coasted to the 5-1 win.

Junior Amari Brown was dealing on Saturday, hurling a four-hit shutout to lead the Florida A&M Rattlers past the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 1-0.
Brown (7-5) went the distance for Florida A&M (20-17)Â giving up four hits, walking three and striking out three.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers took the lead for good in the fourth, scoring for the first and only time in the inning. Freshman Jamison Townsend came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M and get them on the board.
