ORLANDO, Fla --The Florida A&M men's basketball team got a 19-point performance from the bench on the way to a 60-58 win against the Florida Memorial Lions at State Farm Field House Saturday.
The Rattlers (1-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Kaleb Washington, who had 12 points and seven rebounds. Miles Ndalama tacked on 11 points and Antonio Baker chipped in as well with 10 points and four steals.
Tyler Shirley pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Florida A&M offense which grabbed 11 boards and turned them into nine second chance points.
The Florida A&M defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 14 Florida Memorial turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 20 points on the other end of the floor. Baker's four steals led the way individually for the Rattlers.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 28-25 advantage, Florida A&M went on an 8-0 run with 2:32 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Jaquan Sanders, to increase its lead to 36-25. The Rattlers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 32-29 advantage. Florida A&M did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 20 of its 32 points close to the basket.
Florida Memorial proceeded to take a 44-43 lead before Florida A&M went on a 6-0 run to seize a 49-44 lead with 8:48 to go in the contest. The Lions narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Rattlers still held on for the 60-58 win. Florida A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 28 points in the lane.
