Big games from Washington and Sanders not enough in Florida A&M's 89-65 loss to Georgia Tech

ATLANTA, Ga. --Kaleb Washington scored 21 points and Jaquan Sanders added 20, but the Florida A&M men's basketball team fell to the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 89-65 on the road Sunday.

Washington and Sanders' stellar scoring performances led the Rattlers (3-8) in the contest. Washington tacked on five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks and Sanders added five rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Tyler Shirley also helped out with seven points and two steals.

Anquan Boldin Jr. pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace the Florida A&M offense which grabbed 15 boards and turned them into nine second chance points.

Florida A&M did a great job disrupting Georgia Tech shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Washington's two rejections led the way individually for the Rattlers.

How It Happened

Florida A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 43-21 heading into halftime.

Georgia Tech kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 73-49 advantage before Florida A&M went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Boldin Jr.'s layup, to shrink the deficit to 73-56 with 5:24 to go in the contest. Georgia Tech responded and outscored the Rattlers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 89-65. Florida A&M capitalized on 10 Georgia Tech turnovers in the period, collecting 13 points off those turnovers.
