JACKSONVILLE, Fla. --Despite a 61.9 percent shooting effort from beyond the 3-point arc, the Florida A&M men's basketball team fell to the Jacksonville Dolphins 85-82 on the road Tuesday.
The Rattlers (0-5) had four players score in double figures, led by Jaquan Sanders, who had 20 points and five assists. Kaleb Washington added 16 points and two steals off of the bench and Tyler Shirley chipped in as well with 14 points, five assists and two steals.
Florida A&M shared the ball well in Tuesday's game, racking up 15 assists on 33 made field goals. Shirley's five assists led the Rattlers.
How It Happened
After falling behind 14-6, Florida A&M went on a 12-0 run with 12:38 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Devere Palmer, to take an 18-14 lead. The Rattlers then maintained that lead and entered halftime with a 43-39 advantage. Florida A&M relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down seven shots to account for 21 of its 43 points.
Jacksonville proceeded to take a 67-64 lead before Florida A&M went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Sanders' three, to seize a 69-67 lead with 4:38 to go in the contest. The Dolphins then fought back to even things up at 74-74 and send the game to overtime. Florida A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 17 of its 31 total points.
Jacksonville then edged ahead in overtime, leaving Florida A&M behind 85-82 at the final buzzer.
