TALLAHASSEE, Fla. --Cornelia Ellington and Jordan Boddie combined to score 24 total points - 61.5 percent of Florida A&M's points - but the Rattlers fell to the Florida State Seminoles 112-39 on the road Monday.
Ellington led the Rattlers (0-1) with 16 points. Miya Giles-Jones also tacked on five points and six rebounds and Tahnyjia Purifoy chipped in as well with three points.
Led by Shaniyah McCarthy's two offensive rebounds, Florida A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 17 boards that resulted in seven second chance points.
Florida A&M did a great job disrupting Florida State shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Za'Naria Robinson led the way individually for the Rattlers with two rejections.
How It Happened
Florida A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 20-9 at the end of the first quarter.
The Rattlers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 55-14 halftime deficit.
Florida A&M's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Rattlers faced a 74-24 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Florida A&M's bench made the most of its minutes in the period, as non-starters totaled seven of the team's 10 third-quarter points.
Florida A&M could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 112-39. Florida A&M fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down two shots to account for six of its 15 points.
