Rattlers score 53-points in second half to win by 30

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– Florida A&M rolled to a commanding 83-53 victory over Mississippi Valley State at the Al Lawson Center, led by Milton Matthews' game-high 23 points, including six 3-pointers. The Rattlers (5-11, 2-3) dominated from start to finish, building a 30-15 halftime lead and never looking back.

Sterling Young added 17 points on efficient 6-of-13 shooting, while Jordan Chatman and Shaqir O'Neal each contributed 10 points off the bench. The Rattlers shot 47.3% from the field and were particularly effective from beyond the arc, hitting 9-of-23 three-pointers (39.1%).

FAMU's defense stifled Mississippi Valley State (2-17, 0-6), holding them to just 35.6% shooting and forcing 21 turnovers. The Rattlers capitalized on those mistakes, scoring 20 points off turnovers and generating 20 fast break points.

The Rattlers' bench provided a significant spark, outscoring MVSU's reserves 29-24. FAMU also controlled the glass, outrebounding the Delta Devils 39-27, with multiple players contributing on the boards.

After leading by 15 at halftime, FAMU continued to build their advantage in the second half, pushing the lead to as many as 31 points. The Rattlers' balanced attack outscored MVSU 53-38 in the second period.

Arthur Tate led Mississippi Valley State with 17 points, but FAMU's defensive pressure and offensive efficiency proved too much for the visiting Delta Devils to overcome.

The win marks FAMU's second conference victory and their largest margin of victory this year. The Rattlers will hit the road this weekend to play Jackson State and Alcorn State.
