Florida A&M Dominates UAPB. 84-50

TALLAHASSEE, FL --The Florida A&M women's basketball team shot 52.6 percent from deep on the way to an 84-50 win against the UAPB Golden Lions at home Saturday.

The Rattlers (6-10, 3-2) had four players score in double figures, led by Saige Glover, who had 14 points. Eve Alexander added 14 points off of the bench and D'Mya Griffin helped out with 14 points and two steals.

Florida A&M out-rebounded UAPB 52-27 in Saturday's game, led by ZiKeyah Carter's 12 boards. The Rattlers also pulled down 19 offensive rebounds and scored 16 second chance points.

The Florida A&M defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 24 UAPB turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 28 points on the other end of the floor. Sabou Gueye's seven steals led the way individually for the Rattlers.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 5-4 advantage, Florida A&M went on an 11-0 run with 6:31 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Zikeyah Carter, to increase its lead to 16-4. The Rattlers then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 21-9 advantage. Florida A&M capitalized on six UAPB turnovers in the period, turning them into 10 points on the other end of the floor.

Florida A&M built that first quarter lead to 31-17 before going on a 9-0 run starting at the 4:40 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Ivet Subirats, to increase its lead to 40-17. The Rattlers kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 43-20 advantage heading into halftime. Florida A&M was strong from deep in the period, knocking down four three-point shots to account for 12 of its 22 points.

Florida A&M continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Alexander, to expand its lead further to 62-32 with 1:04 to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Florida A&M played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 19 points in the paint.

The Rattlers coasted to the win from there, increasing their margin of victory by outscoring the Golden Lions 22-18 in the fourth quarter. Florida A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 18 of its 22 total points.
