Sterling Young has career game in 86-76 victory versus Arkansas-Pine Bluff

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.–– Sterling Young erupted for a career-high 37 points – the most by a Rattler since Jalen Speer's 32-point performance at Bethune-Cookman on January 6, 2024 – as Florida A&M secured their first conference win of the season, defeating Arkansas-Pine Bluff 86-76 at the Al Lawson Center. The victory marked a significant milestone for head coach Patrick Crarey II, who earned his first win in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

Young was exceptional from beyond the arc, connecting on 7 of 10 three-point attempts while shooting an efficient 12-of-18 from the field overall.

The Rattlers (4-11, 1-3 SWAC) took control early, building a 21-point first-half lead and entering halftime with a commanding 49-28 advantage. FAMU's hot shooting was the story of the first half, as they connected on 9 of 16 three-pointers (56.3%) in the opening period.

While Arkansas-Pine Bluff (3-14, 0-4 SWAC) made a push in the second half, outscoring FAMU 48-37, the Rattlers maintained their composure to secure the victory. The Golden Lions got as close as 10 points in the final minutes but couldn't overcome the large first-half deficit.

Roderick Coffee III and Jordan Chatman each added 11 points for the Rattlers, while Milton Matthews also scored 11. Saiyd Burnside contributed 6 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, helping FAMU control the boards.

The Rattlers shot an impressive 51% from the field for the game and were particularly effective from three-point range, making 13 of 27 attempts (48.1%). Doctor Bradley led Arkansas-Pine Bluff with 24 points and 12 rebounds in the losing effort.

The victory snapped a three-game conference losing streak for Florida A&M and marked their fourth win of the season. The Rattlers return to the Al Lawson Center this Monday, January 20, to play Mississippi Valley State.
