JACKSON, Miss. (Sept. 27) | The Florida A&M volleyball team (9-5, 1-0 SWAC) opened its Southwestern Athletic Conference schedule with a 3-2 victory (25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 18-25, 15-9) at Jackson State Friday.
The Rattlers will continue their SWAC-opening weekend this Sunday at Mississippi Valley State. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET / 12 p.m. CT and will stream live on Valley Sports Network.
GAME NOTES
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET ONE | Florida A&M never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that showcased four lead changes. The Rattlers also supplemented their offense with three aces.
SET TWO | Jackson State took control early at 5-4.
SET THREE | The Rattlers commanded an 18-11 lead before yielding seven straight points to the Tigers. With the score reading 19-18 in favor of JSU, Florida A&M kicked off a 4-0 run, crowned by an ace by Farah Farooq. The visitors went on to take the set, 25-23.
SET FOUR | There were six ties before the 13-all deadlock and the Tigers used a 6-1 run to secure the lead for good.
SET FIVE | Notching four straight kills, Sanford helped the Rattlers to an early lead (5-3) that they never relinquished. A strong defensive showing by the front row, with four blocks in the set, also played a key role in their triumph.
