GAME 1 | Florida A&M 13, Mississippi Valley State 3
TALLAHASSEE, FL --Senior Ty Jackson racked up four hits to help lead the Florida A&M Rattlers over the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 13-3 on Friday.
Freshman Carson Kelly (7-3) started on the mound and picked up the win for Florida A&M (27-24, 22-7). The right-hander went six innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out four. Junior Cody Williams also made an impact on the mound for the Rattlers, throwing one scoreless inning while allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
In addition to his four hits, Jackson had a double, a home run and four RBI to lead the Rattlers. Freshman Josue Figueroa furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Junior Janmikell Bastardo also contributed for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Florida A&M's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Jackson.
The Delta Devils then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 4-3 until the Rattlers expanded their advantage in the fourth. Florida A&M picked up a run on Figueroa's one-out solo home run off of senior Quin Bennett, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Rattlers.
Florida A&M kept Mississippi Valley State without a run before expanding their lead to 6-3 the following inning.
Florida A&M held the Delta Devils without a run before building on their lead in the seventh inning. The Rattlers scored seven runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of senior Adam Haidermota, bringing the Florida A&M advantage to 13-3. The score remained 13-3 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers coasted to the win.
