GULFPORT, Miss. -- Junior Samantha Smith was dealing on Friday, throwing a three-hit shutout to lead the Florida A&M Rattlers over the Alabama State Hornets 8-0.
Smith (10-9) went the distance for Florida A&M (26-19), giving up three hits, walking none and striking out one.
In the batter's box, the Rattlers were led by senior Amaya Gainer, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a walk and two RBI. Senior Mia Blasingane put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-2 with two RBI. Senior Nyah Morgan also chipped in for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI.

The Rattlers took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Florida A&M's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a one-run hbp off the bat of Blasingane.
