JACKSON, Miss. --Senior True Fontenot collected four RBIs to help power the Florida A&M Rattlers past the Jackson State Tigers 9-5 on Wednesday.
Senior Caleb Granger (7-2) started on the mound and picked up the win for Florida A&M (21-20, 16-3). The right-hander went 6.1 innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on eight hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.
Fontenot went 2-for-4 with a home run and a walk in addition to his four RBIs for the Rattlers. Sophomore Ben Kim furnished a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a triple and three RBI. Senior Joseph Pierini also helped out for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers were trailing 1-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Florida A&M scored three times, all of them coming across on a three-run homer off the bat of Fontenot.
The Tigers then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 3-2 until the Rattlers expanded their advantage in the sixth. The Florida A&M offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run triple off the bat of Kim, which brought the score to 7-2 in favor of the Rattlers.
Jackson State narrowed Florida A&M's lead to 7-3 before the Rattlers stretched the advantage to 9-3 in the eighth inning. Jackson State put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Florida A&M still coasted to the 9-5 win.
