Rattlers host Jackson State in critical weekend series

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– Florida A&M softball has been taking care of business during SWAC play as they enter the weekend in first place in the East with a 12-3 record. This weekend, they host second-place Jackson State after winning the series versus the Tigers earlier this season.
 
The Rattlers enter the weekend leading the SWAC in batting average (.359), doubles (24), earned runs allowed (23), and earned runs allowed average (1.71). Rattlers are also in the top three in hits (150), triples (5), runs batted in (89), slugging percentage (.447), on-base percentage (.413), shutouts (3), saves (1), hits allowed (83), runs allowed (41), and opponent batting average (.235).
 
Individually, the Rattlers have four hitters in the top 15 in batting average: Mia Blasingane (6th, .467), Samantha Smith (7th, .455), Amaya Gainer (11th, .442), and Tatianna Davis (12th, .435). Gainer is also 10th in hits with 19. Nyah Morgan, the reigning SWAC Co-Hitter of the Week, has been an RBI machine for the Rattlers as she leads the SWAC with 18.
 
The Rattlers also have two of the best pitchers in the league as Zoryana Hughes ranks fifth in ERA (1.24) and Smith ranks sixth (2.29). Hughes leads the league with seven wins, and Smith is fifth with five. Hughes also ranks sixth in strikeouts (33).
 
The Rattlers and Tigers will play each other for the second time this season as the Rattlers lost the series opener in Jackson but went on to win the doubleheader games.
