Florida A&M falls short in 6-4 loss to Ball State

Tallahassee, FL --Freshman Ben Kim went 2-for-2 with a home run and an RBI, but the Florida A&M Rattlers still came up short on Wednesday, and suffered defeat at the hands of the Ball State Cardinals by a final of 6-4.

Senior Raylan Wagner (0-0) started and took the loss on the mound for Florida A&M (5-8, ). Freshman Carson Kelly was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.2 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out one.

At the plate, the Rattlers were paced by Kim, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Senior Jalen Niles furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Junior Janmikell Bastardo also contributed for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 6-0, the Rattlers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Kim put Florida A&M on the board with a two-out solo home run off freshman Zach Kwasny.

The Rattlers kept the Cardinals off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fifth. Kim came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M, which tightened the Cardinals lead to 6-2.

Florida A&M held the Cardinals off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 6-4 in the sixth. Niles' run-scoring single highlighted a two-run output in the frame for the Rattlers. The Rattlers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
