DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- The Florida A&M Rattlers took a 1-0 lead in the second inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 3-2 win over the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Friday.
Freshman Zoryana Hughes (7-2) started in the circle and picked up the win for Florida A&M (13-14, 9-1). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits, allowing two walks and striking out one.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Florida A&M got an RBI single from senior Nyomi Jones, scoring freshman Aniya Canty from second base.
After the Wildcats rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Rattlers came back to retake the lead in the third inning. Florida A&M pushed across a run on junior Tatianna Davis' one-out RBI double, which brought the Rattlers lead to 2-1.
Florida A&M kept Bethune-Cookman scoreless before building their lead to 3-1 in the sixth inning. Bethune-Cookman put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Florida A&M still held on for the 3-2 win.
