JACKSON, Miss. -- Despite picking up six hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Jackson State, Florida A&M was unable to push across more runs, as the Rattlers were defeated by the Tigers 10-1 Friday.
Samantha Smith (5-7) got the ball to start for Florida A&M (10-14, 6-1) and took the loss. Freshman Zoryana Hughes was a bright spot for the Rattlers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.1 innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on no hits, with one walk and four strikeouts.
At the plate, the Rattlers were led by Nyomi Jones, who went 2-for-3 on the day. Sophomore Neriah Lee put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Rattlers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Florida A&M got an RBI single from Lee, scoring Tatianna Davis from third base. The Rattlers were unable to get any closer, as Jackson State added eight runs to their tally on the way to a 10-1 final.
