JACKSON, MS --The Florida A&M Rattlers broke through after a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning to defeat the Jackson State Tigers 7-2 Saturday.
Freshman Zoryana Hughes (6-2) started in the circle and picked up the win for Florida A&M (11-14, 7-1). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rattlers were trailing 1-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Florida A&M got an RBI single from Brianna Duggins, scoring Amaya Gainer from third base.
The Tigers broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the fifth inning, when the Rattlers got back on the scoreboard. Florida A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Tatianna Davis, which brought the score level at 2-2.
That 2-2 tie turned into a 5-2 Florida A&M lead in the sixth.
Florida A&M held the Tigers scoreless before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Rattlers scored twice, with one run coming across on Duggins' 2-out single, bringing the Florida A&M advantage to 7-2. The score remained 7-2 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers coasted to the win.
