Hughes throws shutout in Florida A&M's 6-0 win against Mississippi Valley State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– Freshman Zoryana Hughes throws a shutout on Saturday as the Florida A&M Rattlers blanked the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes 6-0.

Peppers started in the circle for Florida A&M (10-13, 6-0), going zero shutout innings without giving up a hit. Hughes (5-2) picked up the win out of the bullpen and went seven shutout innings, allowing nine hits, walking three and striking out seven.

Junior Brianna Duggins led the way offensively for the Rattlers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a triple and two RBI. Senior Amaya Gainer put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-1 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Delacia DeLeslin also chipped in, going 1-for-2 for Florida A&M with a walk and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers took the lead for good in the second, scoring for the first time in the inning. Florida A&M got an RBI single from freshman Monroe Oglesby, scoring Gainer from third base.

The Rattlers then tacked on runs in the third and fifth innings, with their biggest output coming in the third when they scored three times. Two of those three runs scored on a two-run triple from Duggins.
