Morgan racks up 4 RBIs in Florida A&M's 9-1 win over Mississippi Valley State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. –– Senior Nyah Morgan collected four RBIs to help lead the Florida A&M Rattlers past the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes 9-1 on Saturday.

Junior Samantha Smith (5-6) got the win for Florida A&M (9-13, ). The right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on one hit, allowing four walks and striking out two. Junior Lauryn Peppers also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking one and striking out two.

Morgan went 2-for-3 with a home run in addition to her four RBIs for the Rattlers. Freshman Delacia DeLeslin furnished a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Junior Kayla Alexandre also chipped in for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Florida A&M put together a three-run frame, culminating in a run-scoring single from Morgan.

The Rattlers then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fourth inning after the Delta Devilettes cut it to 3-1. Freshman Aniya Canty came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M, which brought the Rattlers lead to 4-1.

Florida A&M held Mississippi Valley State scoreless before expanding their lead to 9-1 the following inning. The Rattlers bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Morgan. The score remained 9-1 for the rest of the game, as Florida A&M coasted to the win.
