Watson records 5 RBIs in Florida A&M's 11-1 victory over Mississippi Valley State

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Junior Kiauna Watson collected five RBIs to help lead the Florida A&M Rattlers past the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes 11-1 on Friday.

Freshman Zoryana Hughes (4-2) started in the circle and picked up the win for Florida A&M (8-13, ). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.

Watson went 2-for-3 with a double in addition to her five RBIs for the Rattlers. Senior Nyah Morgan compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 1-for-1 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Freshman Delacia DeLeslin also helped out for Florida A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Rattlers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Florida A&M got an RBI single from junior Samantha Smith, scoring senior Amaya Gainer from third base.

The Delta Devilettes failed to push any runs across before the Rattlers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Junior Tatianna Davis came across to score the lone run of the inning for Florida A&M, which brought the Rattlers lead to 2-0.

Mississippi Valley State narrowed Florida A&M's lead to 2-1 before the Rattlers stretched the advantage to 6-1 in the fourth inning. The Rattlers bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of DeLeslin.

Florida A&M held the Delta Devilettes scoreless before their offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Rattlers scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Watson, bringing the score to 11-1 in favor of Florida A&M. The score remained 11-1 for the rest of the game, as the Rattlers coasted to the win.
